| The delightful fishing village of Kalk Bay, only 30km from Cape Town city centre, on the False Bay Coast was named Kalk ("lime") after the lime kilns set up here in the 17th century to produce lime for painting buildings. Despite being the smallest in South Africa, the harbour is exceptionally busy, especially at the peak of the snoek season in June and July. If you are at the harbour around lunch time when the boats come in you may have the opportunity to buy your meal from a local fisherman straight off the boat. |
