Spend the day rocking in a hammock on your ‘stoep’, watching water lilies open to the sun while kingfishers dart in and out of the pond. Or put on your boots to tackle the Drupkelders hike and spend hours at the waterfall and swimming pools you’ll discover in the forest. Or go into Knysna for craft beers or coffee and to wander through the town’s art galleries and shops. Then return to Forest Edge in time to watch the fireflies emerge as you light the fire for your braai…

The beauty of Forest Edge is that it’s a place where you can relax and unwind on your terms, indulging your interests in any number of directions. The eco-friendly and multi-award-winning complex of self-catering cottages borders the Knysna forest and is just 20 minutes from the bustling seaside town with all its attractions.

Run on sustainable principles, the gardens at Forest Edge are abundant; think fruit trees, bee hives and a thriving permaculture garden. Nourished by the same soils that have sustained the Knysna forests for centuries, everything grows. There are free ranging chickens and doe-eyed donkeys and frequent visits from bushbucks, baboons, bush pigs and porcupines. Bees buzz, birds call and the forest whispers…Find peace at the forest facing meditation corner with a huge meditation spiral, a yoga deck & bamboo fountain and you can book an in-cottage massage. Let you inner child escape while you watch resident bunnies frolic in magical gardens.

When you’re ready to explore you’ll have plenty of choice. Knysna is world-famous for its forest and coastal hikes, mountain-biking, forest birding, markets, secluded picnics, canoe trips, beaches and more.

Each of the five cottages is private and tranquil. Built in the nostalgic style of the old woodcutter cottages from centuries past, each unit is fully equipped for a comfortable, relaxed and self-sufficient stay. They each have two bedrooms, indoor free-standing bath, outdoor shower, fully equipped kitchen, open-plan lounge/dining area with flatscreen TV and DVD, and fireplace and braai. Fieldmouse cottage also has an en suite shower.
