Kanonkop Guest House in Knysna is an exquisite owner managed five star retreat situated on the edge of Kanonkop hill with uinterrupted views of the Knysna Lagoon and Heads.

The town is perfectly situated to explore the rest of the Garden Route with it's diverse palate of offerings from hiking trails and forest walks to birding
and game viewing.

Kanonkop Guest House is the perfect destination for the golf traveller as we are corporate members at Fancourt, Pezula and Simola golf estates. Our guests are therefore able to play these magnificent courses at discounted prices. If you're feeling less energetic, spend your days relaxing around our magnificent salt water pool or climb aboard our luxury speedboat for a romantic sunset cruise. All watersports, fishing and cycling are arranged and offered “in-house”.



The Paradise suite certainly lives up to it's name and the interior is luxuriously appointed with original artwork and magnificently crafted furniture. The room occupies an entire third floor and has out of this world views, is wonderfully spacious and has a large king size sleigh bed as it's focal point. The large en suite bathroom has a glass walk in shower and oversized elevated bath and shares the same breathtaking view. Paradise leads out onto a private juliet balcony with views forever where you can while away the time enjoying an evening sundowner as the sun slips behind the distant rolling hills.

The room is a romantic delight, ideal for honeymooners and no expense has been spared in creating a private haven of irresistible luxury and sumptuous comfort. You will awake to sonorous bird calls or soft monkey chatter as the mist gently rises from the lagoon below.

Paradise was recently rated the “best room in Knysna” by the Frommer's South Africa Travel Guide.

The Sivuyile and No Matata suites are identical large and luxurious queen bedded suites that open out through double slide doors to an expansive sundeck. The rooms have fantastic views over the garden and pool and out towards the Knysna Lagoon and Heads in the distance. They are furnished to the same level of sophistication and luxury as Paradise and in addition have a satellite TV and well stocked reading area with a double and single seater couch and coffee table. Sivuyile and No matata can easily have a single bed added for those who prefer twin bedded acommodation.

The stunning New Sunbird Room is a king sized bedded room which also can be converted to two single beds. This luxurious room leads out to a very large balcony with uninterrupted views of the lagoon. It also features a comfortable reading area and a bathroom with a full bath and separate shower, satellite TV, electronic safe and the same extras as Sivuyile and No Matata.

The New (2008) Forest Room leads out onto a big private wooden deck where guests enjoy a view of the indigenous forest with sparkling sights of the lagoon captured between the trees. This is a very special room with an Italian bathroom, beautiful antique furniture and a quartz pebble floor with underfloor heating. It also features a lovely lounge area with satellite TV. It has a king size bed which can be converted to two single beds if preferred.




Knysna, with it's warm Indian Ocean waters, 18 square kilometre estuary, mountains and lush indigenous forest is a natural playground for adventure seekers. Join us for a sunset cruise aboard our luxury speedboat or if you're feeling more energetic try waterskiing or wakeboarding.

Go for a romantic paddle down the meandering Knysna River in our twin kayak where you may hear the haunting call of the beautiful Fish eagle. Take a walk on one of the nearby golden beaches and feel the soft sand caress your toes and feet. Pedal into town or ride one of the thrilling indigenous forest cycle routes on our quality mountain bikes. Grab a fishing rod and head for the nearby water where you're likely to catch some of the abundant coastal fish. Other extreme activities such as quad biking, bungy jumping, abseiling and microlighting are right at your doorstep.

The Garden Route is fast becoming one of the most sought after golfing destinations in the world. With it's year round mild climate, stunning natural beauty and proliferation of world class championship golf courses, Knysna is perfectly positioned for the travelling golfer to experience the best Africa has to offer. Kanonkop Guest House has positioned itself as the premier golf and accommodation establishment in the Southern Cape and has corporate membership at Fancourt, Pezula and Simola golf estates. The exclusive Fancourt Country Club has four courses of which three are ranked in the top 20 courses of South Africa. Guests at Kanonkop are able to play the parkland courses of Montagu and Outeniqua (normally reserved for member play only) and the Bramble Hill course which is open to the public.

Pezula, a spectacular cliffside course perched on Knysna's eastern Head is a visual feast with a dramatic and challenging layout and is a must when staying in Knysna. The course is a mixture of parkland and links and is always in immaculate condition. Pezula is in Knysna and is a mere 15 minute drive from Kanonkop Guest House.

Another must play is the newest addition to the wonderful Knysna courses, Simola Country Estate. A Jack Nicklaus designed course along the banks of the Knysna River. Simola was rated the “best new course” in South Africa in December 2005. Incidentally Jack Nicklaus stayed with us during his visits to Knysna to work on the course.

There are many other championship golf courses within a 45 minute drive such as Oubaai, Goose Valley, George Golf Club, Pinnacle point, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna Golf course to name a few.
