Spectacular historic beach villa, recently refurbished and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and barbecue area added. La Gratitude was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and built in 1917. It has the best location in Hermanus, being the closest house to Grotto beach in Voelklip. Yet the house enjoys splendid seclusion, being built on 3000 square meters of gently sloping grass rimmed by indigenous vegetation. Its generous proportions can sleep a maximum of 10 people comfortably. It is seaside home of one of the Cape's most historically prominent families, La Gratitude offers superb, understated luxury with unsurpassed, uninterrupted views across Walker Bay. Situated just steps away from both secluded coves and a 12 km stretch of pristine beach. The cliff path begins meters from the house and follows the bay round to Hermanus village.

La Gratitude is the ideal place for family holidays, group getaways and small business motivational retreats. La Gratitude provides a spectacular and romantic venue for weddings. Pam Nel is a highly competent wedding coordinator based in Hermanus. She can organize whatever you require to make your wedding day memorable and completely to your satisfaction. Friends and family can come and enjoy spending time with you at La Gratitude before your wedding and stay on after. There are also a number of excellent Guest Houses very near by where your wedding guests can stay.

La Gratitude is about 90 minutes drive from Cape Town, in an easterly direction along the garden route. It is 15 minutes drive from Hermanus village.
The interior is designed in the simple luxurious elegance of a by-gone age. There are 4 bedrooms downstairs;
two with en-suite bathrooms and the other two share a bathroom. Two of the rooms have huge king sized beds and the other two are twin bedded rooms. Upstairs there is a twin bedded room with it's own separate sitting room/entertainment area and bathroom. All the bathrooms have recently bed redone with clean white finishes and stunning blue tiles. The bedding is luxurious 100% cotton percale with satin stitching.
Bath and beach towels are provided.
There is a thoroughly modern kitchen with all conveniences, including a new hob,
oven, dishwasher, washing machine and two fridges. The kitchen is open plan with
the dinning room, which has a magnificent antique table that seats 12.

The large but cosy sitting room has a fireplace, Satellite TV, DVD, VCR, and music
system. There is a central courtyard in the house that provides a sunny private
haven, if it is windy.

A daily maid service is provided with the house. If you need a cook, chef, nanny or
any other service this can be arranged for you.

Combining the most modern luxurious facilities with a panoramic view of Walker Bay, La Gratitude's fenced outside entertainment area includes a multi-jet, multi-functional Jacuzzi (all the better to enjoy the sunset spectaculars from),
a child friendly pool, pool loungers, a 12-seater garden dining area and a built-in braai/barbacue. Ideal for every type of relaxed social gathering, including whale watching.

Hermanus has some of the best land-based whale watching in the world - you can see them breach from the terrace or Jacuzzi!
Delightful walking from your front door - a "cliff path" follows the coast into town while, the other way, stretch miles of pristine beach, culminating in a lagoon.
Shop for art and crafts bargains in Market Square.
Improve your swing at the local 18-hole golf course, or at the Arabella Golf estate 30 minutes drive away.
The town has plenty of good restaurants, bars and nightlife.
Hike into Fernkloof nature reserve, whose streams and (swimmable) reservoirs are surrounded by a wealth of colourful 'Vynbos' flora, including some endemic proteas. The owners can arrange guided walks with an expert in local flora, fauna and birdlife.
For the more actively inclined, there is paragliding off the Olifantberg, surfing and shark cage diving on the coast, and kloofing (canyoning) down 'Suicide Gorge'.
For gourmands, the vineyards and fine restaurants of the winelands are half an hour away. Cookery lessons in a range of cuisines can also be arranged at the villa with a nationally renowned chef.
The southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, is a haunting, wave-lashed spot within 2 hours' drive.
You can always head to Cape Town for the day (90 minutes drive each way).
Given advance notice, the owners can arrange almost anything, including special interest tours, surfboard rental, horse-riding - and weddings.
