Lying at the heart of South Africa’s Garden Route, Wilderness offers you ultimate access to an intriguing combination of lakes, rivers, mountains, indigenous forests, and white sandy beaches. Situated overlooking Island Lake and the Serpentine River, Lake House is the ideal base for you to explore this wonderland. Panoramic 180° views stretch from spectacular sunrises over Langvlei in the east, to dramatic sunsets over George Mountain and
Cradock Peak in the west.
Relax on the open deck, or one of our covered patios, and watch Fish Eagles circling over the river, and Marsh Harriers flying low over the vlei in search of their next meal. Catch a glimpse of the brilliantly coloured Knysna Lourie gliding from tree to tree in the surrounding Milkwoods, or one of the many other fascinating bird species that inhabit our coastal dune vegetation.
When you are feeling more adventurous, you will find Lake House to be within a 5 – 10 minute drive of the activity centres for hiking, cycling, canoeing, abseiling, water skiing, fishing, kite surfing and paragliding. Another obvious draw card is the long stretch of unspoiled beach, where many locals will take a stroll at low tide. Between the end of May to the end of October you can also catch sight of whales and dolphins, the best viewing spot being at Dolphin Point.
If you are hungry, and don’t feel like cooking, then you are 7 minutes away from Wilderness Village, and the diversity of cuisine offered in our local restaurants.
Whatever your mood, the answer is only a few moments away from your base at Lake House.
Lake House is self-catering luxury accommodation in a 2-bedroomed architect designed home. Both bedrooms are en-suite, with separate bath and shower facilities.
On the top floor, the master suite has a queen-sized bed, sitting area with a gas fireplace, dressing room, small study area, bathroom with his & her basins,
bath and large shower.
The second bedroom on the lower floor also has a queen-sized bed, with en-suite bathroom and
separate shower.
You can take a shower, or relax in the bath in either bathroom, and enjoy the view over Island Lake, secure in the privacy afforded by the position of the house.
It is almost as good as bathing outdoors.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave oven, gas stove and separate gas oven, a plumbed in fridge that automatically dispenses filtered water and cubed or crushed ice, and an automatic dishwasher. The laundry area has an automatic washing machine, and a tumble dryer for those occasionally rainy washdays.
Although Lake House is two storeys, there is an Otis passenger lift/elevator installed, which also makes it an ideal retreat for the elderly, infirm or partially-abled. There is also a “dumb waiter” that operates between the garage and the kitchen, so there is no need to carry your groceries through the house, just send them down.
The lounge and dining room are open plan, on split levels. Floor to ceiling windows maximise the views, and glass sliding doors provide a more “open air” feel. The lounge also has a gas fireplace for those occasional chilly evenings.
Two built-in outdoor braais (barbecues), one on the open deck and one in the garden, finish off the holiday amenities.
