The lodge is situated on a 22 hectare property, part of the Breede River conservancy and nestles on the river bank about 2kms from the tiny villages of Witsand and Infanta, situated on opposite banks of the river mouth.
This situation is unique in that no other habitation can be seen and the lodge has magnificent views up and down the estuary. The lodge faces north and is protected from the prevailing sea breezes, it is surrounded by fynbos on three sides and the river in front.
The Mudlark consists of a central timber lodge containing the entertainment and dining areas. There is a lounge with fire place for those chilly winter evenings, DSTV is provided. The communal dining area overlooks the river so it is breakfast with a view. There is also a relaxing lounge with river views and a small congenial bar for guests use only, where one can spend the evening in the company of new found friends. Outside is a large covered leisure deck with exceptional views, where one can laze the day away or enjoy sundowners as one watches the fiery sun dip behind the Potberg Mountains. With accommodation for a maximum of 10 guests this is really getting away from the crowds.

The 5 comfortable double rooms also of timber construction are sited of both sides of the main lodge, all have river views and separate entrances. The rooms contain single or double beds, all are en-suite. Each room is exquisitely decorated with delicate finishes that will remind one of home.

Enjoy a hearty home cooked English breakfast and a three course dinner featuring local fare harvested from both the river and the ocean, traditional specialities include oysters, fresh line fish, calamari, and ostrich. Lunch is also available on request. Hilary our chef and owner was trained in England and specializes in Country cuisine. She was the top chef in the Overberg Chef of the Year 2000 competition, Guest House category. Meals are taken in the dining room and braais are sometimes done alfresco on the deck. If you are out for the day picnic lunches can be arranged.

Great hospitality and individual service is what guests far away from home experience.

The Mudlark is owned and managed by your friendly hosts Hilary and Tim, both will go out of there way to make your stay relaxing and memorable.
