At the end of a private dirt road, lying in a spectacular valley on the banks of the tidal Duiwenhoks River, you’ll come upon Oshoek, a family farm now available to rent for your own holiday. A variety of secluded self-catering holiday homes are set on 20 hectares of pristine fynbos, with over 600 metres of private river frontage. Choose from the large old family farmhouse, Peter’s House or the quaint Boathouse. Oshoek is relaxed and comfortable, with everything you need to have a great time, without having to be on your best behaviour.

Vermaaklikheid, a scenic unspoiled village, is 300km from Cape Town and 150km from George airport. The two closest towns on the N2 are Riversdale and Heidelberg.

The weather is great all year round; rainfall is low; winter is cold at night, but the days are warm and sunny.

The tidal river is safe for swimming and boating and is a nature conservation area; no water-skiing or tubing. The river mouth and beach, about 5km downstream, can only be accessed by boat. Boat trips by arrangement or bring your own. There is a lapa on the riverbank and a floating wooden jetty. Fishing is allowed; bring your rod and tackle and catch cob, spotted grunter, elf, haarders etc. – licence required.

All cottages are fully equipped. Linen, towels and laundry facilities are supplied. A cleaning service is available on request. No pets - they chase the buck. |
