Nestling quietly at the foot of the Soetmuisberg, surrounded by rolling wheat and barley fields is the little town of Napier. Founded in 1838 and named after Sir George Napier, the Cape Govenor at the time, it is a perfect stop-over between Cape Town and Cape Aghulas - the southernmost tip of Africa. Napier is ideally situated in the centre of the Overberg. Driving from Cape Town, it is 55km off the N2 at Caledon along the road to Bredasdorp and Arniston.
A variety of activities are available for visitors to the area – there are several local wineries in Napier and close proximity to the village and The Winelands of Stellenbosch and Paarl are approximately an hour’s drive away, the Garden Route is similarly accessible further along the N2. Swimming, whale watching and shark diving, hiking, horse trails and visits to national reserves and historic monuments are all within easy reach. Arrangements can be made for visits to places of local interest on request or you can explore and discover the delights of the area for yourself.
Napier is an ideal stop over for visitors to the Garden Route further along the N2. For those wanting a taste of city life, Cape Town is only 150k away offering a full range of high class shops, flea markets, restaurants, cinemas and theatres as well as some famous and internationally acclaimed tourist sites.
The Overberg is a place where wholesome enjoyment meets exceptional beauty. Where the people welcome you with open arms and the places have a way of creeping into your heart so that you never want to leave.
