Currently the headquarters of the South African Navy, Simon’s Town was previously occupied by the British Navy and, before that, served as anchorage for the ships of the Dutch East India Company. It has played host to a number of famous sea-faring visitors, including Captain Bligh of the HMS Bounty, Lord Horatio Nelson and Captain James Cook. Simon’s Town’s most famous Able Seaman, Just Nuisance, still stands watch over visitors and residents alike in Jubilee Square.
