‘Turrakom’ (No 1, Ixia Rd, Kommetjie) is a self-catering family home at the water’s edge. Wake up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach outside your bedroom window; drink sundowners and braai (barbecue) while watching surfers on the famous Kommetjie Long Beach on your doorstep and the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean. You will also see seals frolicking in the waves with the surfers, and cape clawless otters have been known to wander up our garden path from the sea. In season, you may also see the whales.

The house has a large open-plan living-dining room that opens onto the stoep with the best views in Kommetjie (see picture). There is a TV and DVD player, as well as a radio with CD player. There is also a satellite dish – bring your own decoder.

Turrakom is ideal for a large family or two families sharing. Bedrooms are as follows:
Bedroom 1: Double bedroom with shower and toilet en suite.
Bedroom 2: Double bedroom
Bedroom 3: 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds
Bedroom 4: 2 bunk beds with shower and toilet en suite.
Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a large family bathroom with bath and shower as well as a separate toilet. This means that he house can accommodate 8 -10 people comfortably. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, dishwasher, etc. and there is a washing machine.

Things to do in and around Kommetjie include walking, surfing, fishing, kite surfing, sea kayaking, wave skiing, bird watching and horse riding.

Meander through the local craft markets and antique and craft shops in nearby Noordhoek and Kalk Bay. Climb the Slangkop Lighthouse and visit Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet or walk in the nearby mountains. There are plenty of restaurants in Kommetjie and nearby villages. Long Beach Mall (a mere 7 km away) has all the amenities and Supermarkets. Hout Bay with its fishing harbour is 25 minutes drive away via the famous Chapman’s
Peak Drive.

Follow the M3 until the end. At the T Junction, turn right onto the M42, and through a traffic light. Shortly after that, turn left onto the M64, which will take you over the scenic ‘Ou Kaapse Weg’. At the second set of traffic lights, turn right onto the M65 towards Kommetjie. Drive for about 5,6 km, when you will come into Kommetjie. Take the third road to the right, which is Kirsten Avenue. The Shell Service Station and Community Hall will be off to your left. Kirsten Avenue bears left when it meets the beach front and becomes Benning Drive. Take the third Road to your right on Benning Drive, at the point where the milkwood meets over the road. This is Ixia Rd. Drive right to the end of Ixia. ‘Turrakom’ is No. 1, the last house on your right, right on the beach.
