Betty’s Bay is perfectly situated on the world-renowned whale route of the Western Cape. A spectacular 1 hours drive from Cape Town international airport, 20 min drive to Arabella Country Estate (6 star hotel, spa and voted as one the the best golf courses in South Africa). The best time for whale watching is from June to October, where many whale species; particularly the Southern Right Whale can be spotted close to shore. The well-appointed living area, pub and patio offer an ideal viewing platform to watch these magnificent creatures basking in the sea, which begins a mere 30 meters from the edge of the landscaped fynbos garden. Also, ideal for fishing or crayfishing on a calm day.
Cottage (sleeps 4, max 6)
A self-contained cottage is situated behind the house with 2 bedrooms and a sleeper couch in the lounge. The flat and house are let separately. Should they be let together, the main house has crockery & cutlery for 12 people.
There are a number of long sandy beaches within walking distance or a short drive. Although the water temperature at an average of 18 degrees Celcius, may be a bit chilly for some to swim in, there are many other beach activities, such as sand boarding, surf and rock angling, snorkelling or long walks to allow you to make the most of this magnificent coastline.
Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, situated within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, offers exceptional birding and hiking (Leopard's Gorge Trail or up to Disakloof Waterfall) in the largest floral kingdom in the world and known locally as “fynbos’. These gardens are an easy 1km stroll from Jock’s Place and offer a serene and peaceful alternative, should one tire of the sea and sun.
