Situated in a protected nature reserve perched high on the cliffs and surrounded by forest, fynbos and ocean this designer house is the perfect getaway for those seeking peace and tranquility.
Designed by multi-award winning architect Henry Paine, this eco friendly timber house blends exquisitely with the surrounding nature in a combination of light, glass, wood and space.
The open plan living room is a combination of luxury, comfort and beauty with magnificent sea views. Open the glass doors from the living room to the sea facing deck and watch whales and dolphin in the bay or waves crashing against the rocks. The dining room leads onto the fynbos deck, a birders paradise, peaceful and protected.
The main bedroom with glass doors opening onto a private deck and spectacular views of the ocean, takes your breath away. All bedrooms have beautiful views.
The house is fully equipped with fireplace, quality furnishings, appliances and the finest cotton percale linen. The spaces have been created for peace, reflection and conversation. Play games, bird watch, do a puzzle, read or simply enjoy the view - there is no television to spoil the atmosphere
Main bedroom - Views of ocean, fynbos & forest, private deck, queen bed, bathroom en-suite with bath, shower and splendid views
Second bedroom – Views of forest and ocean, queen bed, private deck off bedroom, bathroom en-suite with shower and forest views
Third bedroom – Views of fynbos and ocean, two single beds, bathroom en-suite with shower
Enjoy trails that wind through protected fynbos flower species seen nowhere else in the world, along rugged cliffs and up and down steep gorges. Ballots Bay is a fisherman’s paradise and the pebbly beach is perfect for foraging and exploring or paddling in the river as it meets the sea. The plains above the cliffs are home to wildlife including antelope, zebra, karakul, porcupine and bush pig.
The reserve is accessed via a private road that winds over rivers and up and down steep slopes that some call challenging, we call marvelous. But don’t be put off; it is easily accessed in ordinary vehicles.
Close by are famous surfer’s paradise, Victoria Bay, beautiful beaches at Wilderness and Sedgefield and golfing, canoeing, great walks, restaurants and country markets.
